Historical Importance of Incense
Incense has been with mankind since the beginning of time. It is a part of
Indian heritage. One of the oldest sources we have regarding the use of incense
in the Indian Vedas. It is found with reference to Ayurveda. Incense sticks
have, for ages, been associated with spirituality and transmit purity in life
through enchanted fragrances. Incense artifacts, thousands of years old, have
been found throughout the world and appear to be part of virtually every
culture. It is the Indian way of life to signal the dawn and the end of a day.
Since ancient times in India, aromatic wood, leaves, roots etc were
burnt in the sacred fire during religious rituals. These natural materials had
disinfectant and fungicidal properties. Besides purifying the air before
important religious rituals, these incenses also prepare the mind to commune
with the Gods. Today we (Indians) use the same raw materials to make our
Agarbattis, Scented Cones and a wide variety of other Incense products. Ever
since the glorious times of Vedic India Chandan holds a venerated position. Its
touch to the human body is cooling and pacifying, its fragranced purifying. As a
"Puja Samagri" Chandan (SANDAL WOOD) has few equals.
How are these
Incense sticks made: Agarbatti or the incense stick is a hand made by
making a paste of Aromatic wood, Leaves, roots and a special adhesive. This
paste is rolled onto fine wooden sticks and sun dried . The dried Incense Sticks
are then hand dipped in Aromatic oils and perfumes to make a finished product
that enlightens the spirit when lit. The incense sticks are available in a wide
variety of fragrances and can be availed on customer"s choice.

Tibetan Incense History: During the time of the Buddha, over 2500
years ago, recipes and formulas were developed using 20 to 30 different
substances specially combined to produce the different fragrances that we now
offer. Herbs, minerals, flowers, etc. were used in this process. These recipes
were then taken, along with the teachings of the Buddha, to Tibet.
With
the invasion of India by the Muslems and the destruction of the monasteries
there, the recipes would have been lost but were fortunately preserved by monks
in the Tibetan monasteries. When the Tibetans left Tibet with the Chinese
Communist take over in 1959, they brought back with them to India the recipes
which had been lost Today this fine incense is made, once again, in India by
Tibetan Refugees.
